The National Universities Commission (NUC) has scheduled a meeting with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to deliberate on the ongoing strike embarked upon six months ago by public university lecturers in the country.
The meeting has been fixed for September 6 at the NUC headquarters in Abuja.
Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, Pro-Chancellors and Vice-Chancellors of federal universities are all expected to be present at the meeting.
The proposed meeting was organized by the NUC Executive Secretary, Prof. Abubakar Rasheed, on Tuesday in Abuja.
The chancellors will engage Adamu on the contentious issues and how to end the industrial action.
Rasheed reminded the officials that the ASUU strike led to the closure of the institutions since February 14.
He said non-teaching unions suspended theirs on 24th August, 2022, while a final decision is being awaited from ASUU.
“It has become necessary for the governing councils and the management of the universities to be briefed on the decisions and actions taken by the Federal Government so far.
“This is to allow for a well-coordinated review of the situation, including building consensus around succeeding actions”, Rasheed added.
