The federal government on Tuesday disclosed that it has recruited hundreds of ad-hoc to help track contact tracing and affirmed it also opened new testing sites in the country.
Speaking to journalists at the presidential task force briefing on COVID-19, the Minister of Health, Osagie Ehanire, disclosed that the NCDC has engaged hundreds of staff to help in contact tracing and laboratory works.
He also noted that the FG is are preparing about one thousand beds in Abuja to be used if the need arises. resources have been provided. More laboratory will join
He added that the presidential task force is reviewing its measure and response to the COVID-19 battle in Nigeria.
His words: “As of the 31st of March, 2020 we have recorded 135 confirmed cases, 2 deaths. For a breakdown of cases by states, and the majority are persons from abroad. The incidence of new cases will reduce as a result of the closure of airports and land borders.
Currently; Lagos- 81 FCT- 25 Ogun- 4 Enugu- 2 Ekiti- 1 Oyo- 8 Edo- 2 Bauchi- 2 Osun-5 Rivers-1 Benue- 1 Kaduna- 3.”
“Training is ongoing for medical personnel, the capacity to increase bed space is present, more testing sites opened in Ibadan and Abakaliki. He said testing is free for all Nigerian. We shall be deploying viral specialists to Abuja to aid training of personnel, he noted.
“The fight against Covid-19 is not for the government alone, he urged Nigerians to wash hands frequently for about 20 seconds or use alcohol-based sanitisers, if during Isolation you develop symptoms call the NDDC on 080097000010; avoid the crowd and large gatherings, stay at home ”
