Members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria, IMN, popularly called Shiites on Thursday protested at the ECOWAS building along Yakubu Gowon Crescent in the Asokoro area of Abuja demanding the immediate release of their leader, Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky who has been in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) since 2015.
After making their grievances known to the officials, the aggrieved Shiites in their hundreds including men and women proceeded on a peaceful procession along the AYA axis calling on President Muhammadu Buhari to obey court orders and set the embattled El-Zakzaky and his wife free to seek urgent medical attention.
“We reiterate our call for the government to free Sheikh Zakzaky to enable him seek medical treatment abroad,” a man who appears to be their leader told TNG reporter at the scene of the protest.
Recall that El-Zakzaky’s lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN) had secured the yet-to-be-obeyed December 2, 2016 judgment of the Federal High Court in Abuja which ordered the release of El-Zakzaky, and his wife Zeinab, from the custody of the Department of State Service.
El-Zakzaky and his wife have been detained by the DSS since December 2015
