Speaker of the House of Representatives Hon.Yakubu Dogara has constituted an Ad-hoc Committee to interface with the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC over its disdain on the resolutions of the House on electoral matters.
The Speaker had announced the names of the chairman and members of the Committee after plenary on Wednesday before the lawmakers adjourned to Tuesday next week due to malfunctioning public address system.
According to him Hon. Edward Pwajok(Plateau, APC) is the Chairman of the Committee. Some other members include Hon.Lawal Abubakar (Adamawa,APC), Hon. Lovette Idisi (Delta,PDP), Hon.Peter Akpatason (Edo, APC), Hon. Aminu Suleiman (Kano, APC), Hon. Nnenna Ukeje (Abia, PDP), Hon.Hon. Benjamin Wayo (Benue, APC) and two other lawmakers.
The Committee is to summon the Secretary and other officers of the electoral umpire with a view to ascertaining why they have not been complying with resolutions of the House on electoral matters.
They are further mandated to ascertain why the election management body have not conducted bye-election in some state constituencies in the country where the are vacancies in political offices.
The Speaker while constituting the Committee charged the lawmakers to discharge their duties diligently and report back to the House without delay.
Meanwhile the House had adopted a motion calling on the federal government to forestall the resurgence of youth restiveness in Etim Ekpo and Ukanafun local council areas of Akwa Ibom State.
The sponsor of the motion Hon. Emmanuel Ekon (Akwa-Ibom, PDP) while debating the motion noted that a group of aggrieved youths in the communities of the two council areas moved into the nearby bushes where they unleashed terror on the residents and passers-by.
He informed the House that as a result of displacement, people from affected communities are in refuge camps in Iwukem and other communities.
He further hinted that the Akwa-Ibom State Government recently assembled some youths who claimed to have surrendered their weapons to embrace peace adding that they were neither given any form of training nor any sustainable means of livelihood.
Consequently, the House adopted the motion when the Speaker Hon.Yakubu Dogara put the matter to vote and it was voted overwhelmingly.
