Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have raided the Oluwalose community located along Okolowo, a suburb of the Ilorin metropolis, Kwara state and reportedly abducted at least 15 people.
It was gathered that the armed men stormed the community around midnight on Tuesday, January 10, 2023, shooting sporadically.
A source in the community said the community chairman, Mr. Buhari Tunde, was also kidnapped by the gunmen.
TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports that the attack made residents of the community scamper for safety until men of the Operation Harmony tactical team showed up at about 2:00 am.
However, the spokesperson of the state police command, Okasanmi Ajayi, who confirmed the incident, said that two men were abducted in the early morning attack.
The PPRO added that efforts were ongoing to get the victims rescued.
Recall that sometime in August 2022 gunmen killed a hotelier, Kayode Akinyemi, during an attack on his hotel in Alomilaya area, Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State.
The hoodlums also abducted the deceased’s friend and injured the hotel manager simply identified as Olushila Ojo during the attack.
Eyewitnesses told journalists that the gunmen invaded the facility, 16 Hour Hotel, and started shooting sporadically.
TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports that Kwara is a state in Western Nigeria, bordered to the east by Kogi State, to the north by Niger state, and to the south by Ekiti, Osun, and Oyo states, while its western border makes up part of the international border with the Benin Republic. Its capital is the city of Ilorin and the state has 16 local government areas.
Of the 36 states of Nigeria, Kwara is the ninth largest in area, but the sixth least populous, with an estimated population of about 3.2 million as at 2016.
Geographically, Kwara state is split between the West Sudanian savanna in the west, and the Guinean forest–savanna mosaic ecoregion in the rest of the state.
Important geographic features of the state include rivers, with the Niger flowing along the northern border into Lake Jeba, before continuing as the border, while the Awun, Asa, Aluko, and Oyun rivers flow through the interior.
In the far northwest of the state is the Borgu section of the Kainji National Park, a large national park that contains populations of grey heron, kob, hippopotamus, African bush elephant, olive baboon, and roan antelope, along with some of the last remaining West African lions on Earth.
In the far southwest, a small part of the Old Oyo National Park contains crowned eagle, martial eagle, African buffalo, oribi, and patas monkey populations.
