Pandemonium, yesterday, erupted at Ovonranmwen Square, otherwise known as Ring Road, in Benin, Edo State after a man, believed to be mentally challenged, stabbed a 23-year-old girl with a knife
The lady was attacked by the mad man, just as she was walking past the city centre. A crowd of passers-by and traders were attracted to the scene, causing traffic jam. The angry mob was said to have pounced on the assailant, beating him black and blue.

Mentally challenged man stabs pedestrian in #Edo . . A lady is lucky to be alive after being stabbed by a mentally challenged man along a walkway in #Benin, #EdoState. . . The incident happened yesterday at the front of Oruokpota hall, Ring road, Benin. . . It was gathered that the lady was having a conversation with a friend, when the culprit told them to leave, but they ignored him, only for him to bring out a knife and stabbed the lady. . . The lady, said to be in critical condition, was rushed to the nearest hospital. It will be recalled that there are several mentally challenged people along Ring Road and Government Reservation Areas (GRAs) of the state.
According to eyewitnesses, the assailant, for reasons yet to be fathomed, brought out the knife and pounced on the victim. An eyewitness said: “The lady, who is now in a very critical condition, has been rushed to the hospital.”
The Edo State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Chidi Nwabuzor, when contacted about the matter, explained that he was yet to be briefed by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of the community where the incident occurred. He promised to make his findings and get back to our correspondent with the facts of the case.
