A man, who tried to force his way into the wheel-well of an Air Peace aircraft with the intention to leave Nigeria for overseas, ran out of luck and was caught by airport security on Friday in Lagos State.
TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) security caught the yet to be identified man in his twenties at the Murtala Mohammed Airport, Lagos.
The Air Peace aircraft, bound for Owerri, Imo State, was taxing towards the threshold for take-off when the man emerged from the bush along the runway, and tried to gain access to the aircraft through the wheel-well.
When accosted and interrogated by FAAN security, the man stated that he thought the aircraft was headed overseas.
Confirming the incident, Air Peace said in a statement that the pilot of the Owerri-bound aircraft was notified of the man trying to gain access into the aircraft by the pilot of a private jet.
“This morning, at exactly 9:10 at the MMA1 Lagos, an Owerri-bound Air Peace aircraft was taxing towards the threshold for take-off when a man in his twenties emerged from the bush along the runway, and tried to gain access to the aircraft through the wheel-well.
“There was a private jet behind the aircraft. The pilot in command of the private jet informed the Air Peace pilot in command that a young man obviously in his twenties, was trying to force his way into the aircraft.
“The security wing of the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, was alerted and the man was accosted and whisked away. He is currently in the regulator’s custody. When interrogated on why he took the action, the man stated that he thought the aircraft was headed overseas,” Air Peace confirmed.
TNG gathers that FAAN is further investigating the incident.
