Legislative aides to members of the National Assembly on Tuesday started a protest over nonpayment of emoluments as the eighth Assembly resumes for its last lap of legislative business.
The protesters from both the Senate and House of Reps had converged at the Lobby of the National Assembly around 10.30am with various placards with inscription such: “Omolori, the NASS ‘all boil if u faill to pay our outstanding salaries and allowances”, NASS leadership,we are not slaves, we are workers, pay us” among others.
They had threatened to make the the planned resumption of the apex legislature impossible unless their grievances were addressed.
Chairman of the NASAF Com.Sam Melaye later addressed the protesters at about 11.15 am informing them that he had met with the management of the legislative institution over the matter and they had reach an agreement on the modalities for the payment.
The lawmakers as at the time of filing this story were yet to resume plenary.
There maybe no plenary as traditionally, the lawmakers must mourn one of their own by adjourning for a day as a mark of respect.
Hon Funke Adedoyin a Rep member had passed on during the recess on September 28.
