…says opposition is channelling its protest the wrong way
…Secondus led protest not nationalistic, it’s sectional
…Atiku, Tambuwal, Dankwabo visibly missing in protest
Chairman House of Representatives Committee on Police Affairs, Hon Usman Bello Kumo on Monday said there’s no synergy among sister security agencies which is grossly affecting intelligence gathering.
Kumo who spoke on a national television programme on Monday with the thrust on security said all the security apparatuses are not in sync towards gathering credible intelligence to combat insecurity in Nigeria.
He said “my opinion maybe different from that of many Nigerians but there are questions begging for answers which are: do we have enough equipment, do we have enough recruited personnel, are they well funded, the answer is not just there.
“In the history of this country every 1sqm has somebody in charge and with that we can curtail insecurity but there’s no synergy among the sister agencies to get positive results.
“So when you know who is in charge you can get accurate intelligence to counter insecurity or insurgency at anytime and this is possible.
“The police is doing a wonderful job but a situation whereby intelligence gathering is hampered they are equally hindered
“We are bordered by French speaking countries, Chad, Cameroon, Benin and our borders are porous and there js no synergy between the immigration department and other security agencies.
“Our politicians are not equally helping matters, security is not applicable to only Buhari because I don’t subscribe to this pull him down syndrome.
“The other day I watched Secondus leading a protest and all the politicians there were Southerners and they were all Christian’s, there was no Atiku, no Lamido, no Tambuwal and Dankwabo, meaning it was not a national protest.
“If they want to protest, it should be truly national, not a regional protest it must be truly national.
“My final take on this issue is that going by Section 14b of our 1999 constitution, the primary responsibility of the government is to protect its citizenry, so if the government spends on security there should be no loss.
“Our police needs to be adequately funded to make them more effective and there’s need to employ our teeming youths into the various security agencies to get better results”.
