Oyo state loses another prominent traditional ruler to illness

The death has been announced of the Onijeru of Ijeru land, Oba Elijah Olaniyi Popoola in Ogbomosho South of Oyo state

The traditional ruler joined his ancestors after suffering from a brief illness on Friday.

The death of Oba Popoola is coming after the death of some prominent first class traditional rulers in the state.

TheNewGuru.com gathered that the Onijeru of Ijeru land in Ogbomoso South Local government area of the state, Oba Ellijah Olaniyi Popoola joined his ancestors on Friday at the age of 85 after a brief illness.

The now deceased oba was installed in the year 2008, thus making it 14 years since ascending the throne.

TheNewsGuru.com recalls that 3 prominent first class obas have joined their ancestors in the last 6 months, the last being the Alaafin of Oyo Oba Lamidi Adeyemi.

On November 7th 2021, the Onigbeti of Igbeti land, Oba Emmanuel Oyekan Oyebisi, Afasegbejo III joined his ancestors at the age of 77.

It was also reported that the Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Jimoh Oyewumi joined his ancestors on December 12th 2021.

Adeoye Lawuyi Aribiyan Asigangan of Igangan, in Ibarapa North local government area also joined his ancestors on December 21st 2021

The 41st Olubadan of Ibadan land, Oba Saliu Adetunji also joined his ancestors on January 2nd 2022 at the age of 93.

January 31st 2022 Oba Gabriel Adepoju, joined his ancestors he was until his death the Oloko of Oko Ile in Oriire Local Government area of the state.

The Onikoyi of Ikoyi-Ile, in the Oriire Local Government Area of the state, Oba Abdulyekeen Ayinla Oladipupo, has joined his ancestors on April 8th 2022.
