A former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) Chief Olabode George, offered a word of advice to PDP’s presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, and Rivers state governor, Nyesom Wike to settle their differences.
George advised the two disagreeing PDP bigwigs to do so on time in the interest of the party and the citizens of the country ahead of next year’s general elections.
He called on aggrieved members of the party to close rank for the benefit of the PDP.
The PDP chieftain made his position known at his Lagos Ikoyi residence during a press conference.
George appealed to the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, to reach out to aggrieved persons, whilst also appealing to the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, to continue to show interest in the party’s affairs.
He also urged the party’s National Chairman, Dr. Iyorchia Ayu, to honor his promise and resign.
He said Ayu had earlier promised to resign if the party’s presidential candidate emerges from the North.
He said, “I aspired to serve as national chairman, but had to bury the ambition when it was not zoned to the South West, contrary to the expectation of party faithful in the region.
Both Wike and Atiku are at loggerhead over irreconcilable differences following Atiku’s preference for Okowa over Wike for the vice presidential slot.
Olabode Ibiyinka George is a Nigerian politician who became Military Governor of Ondo State, and later Chairman of the Nigerian Ports Authority, then national vice-chairman in the southwest zone of the People’s Democratic Party.
