Topmost aspirant across parties in the 2024 Edo State gubernatorial election, Professor Senator Oserheimen Osunbor, has advised the APC to avoid the money politics that culminated in the party losing woefully in the recent Bayelsa State gubernetorial election.
Recall Timipre Silva was reported to have spent big on securing the ticket ahead of the more popular David Lyon at the APC primary, only to lose scandalously at the polls.
In an interactive session with the 18 APC LGA chairmen on Wednesday in Benin-City, Senator Osunbor stressed the need for the party to avoid a repeat of the Bayelsa State scenario, intermitently drawing applause from all 18 APC Local Government Area chairmen with his thrilling recount of his past good deeds.
He said: “If you give me the ticket, if you make me your governor, I can assure you, Edo State will be on the ascendancy.
“I want to implore you to take this message home to the top leadership of the party, the middle leadership of the party, and the grassroots leadership of the party. Because very soon you will be called out to take a decision at the party primaries about who will fly the flag in the gubernatorial election.
“Again in Bayelsa, from what I hear, money may have played a big role in David Lyon not getting the ticket and Timipre Silva getting the ticket.
” Did the big money that played that big role work in the general election? So again, let us be mindful of the decision we take because what matters most is APC winning the election in September.”
Renowned for matching words with action, Senator Osunbor once again promised to surpass his good work of 18 months as governor of Edo State between 2007 and 2008.
