Edo State deputy governor, Comrade Philip Shaibu has disclosed his intention to be a church warden after he retires from politics.
Comrade Shaibu who spoke during a visit by a group, Catholic Men Organization (CMO) recalled during his youthful days as a Catholic, he actively participated in all the church’s activities.
He told the delegation which was led by the president of CMO, Mr. Austin Odigie that his father was born a Muslim but converted parents and all his siblings were raised as Catholics.
The deputy governor said that as a young man, he was a mass servers noting that he was a legionnaire and used to go to camp during the holidays.
He added: “I want to be a warden in the Catholic Church when I am done with politics. As a warden, my wife is already ahead of me. I was a man servant and a legionnaire who participated in all church activities.
“I was well brought up as a Catholic. Everything I do, I make sure that God is in charge. For me, God is first and last. I grew up as a Catholic and participated in all Catholic activities.
“I am a very strong willed person who cannot be bought with money. If I am with you. I’ll continue to serve God all the days of my life. I can’t be with anybody who is not godly.”
Mr. Odigie who presented an official letter from the Catholic Archbishop, Benin Metropolitan See on the investiture of Shaibu as grand patron of CMO explained that the church.
The president noted that the organization decided to honour the deputy governor because of his commitment and support to the church over the years.
