Former Presidential aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Peter Obi, is in discussion with the leaders of the New Nigerian Peoples Party, NNPP, with a view to joining the party.
Obi, a former Governor of Anambra state and leading aspirant in the 2023 presidential election, had earlier resigned his membership of the PDP on Wednesday.
Obi’s decision to quit the PDP was first conveyed to the Chairman of Aguta Ward 2, Anambra LGA, in Anambra State, last Friday, May 20, 2022.
His official resignation from the main opposition was however contained in a letter addressed to the Party’s National Chairman, Sen. Iyorchia Ayu, which Politics Digest obtained.
TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) credible sources hinted that the former Anambra Governor has been penciled down to become the running mate of Sen. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, if his eventual defection into the party sails through.
It is however not clear at the time of filing this report who will be the presidential candidate and vice-presidential candidate between Obi and Kwankwaso if the ongoing meeting is fruitful.
TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) recalls that on Wednesday, Obi dumped the main opposition party (PDP) for an undisclosed party.

The former Anambra governor hinted that he may not get the party’s ticket.
Obi confirmed his exit on Wednesday evening, saying he caught wind of a gang up against him.
As at when the former Anambra governor confirmed his exit, he did not declare his new party soon.
It was gathered that in the PDP’s primaries, which is scheduled to hold in Abuja this weekend, Obi is initially seen as a front runner in a race that includes Atiku Abubakar, Nyesom Wike, Dele Momodu, Bukola Saraki and other bigwigs.
Meanwhile, hundreds of youths, on Wednesday, from Gulumbe town under Birnin Kebbi local, have defected to NNPP.
The youths who are from different political parties in Kebbi state were received by party excos and house of representative aspirant Abubakar Aliyu Dangaladima at Gulumbe.
