… insists Betara has the track records of playing the role of First Among Equals
As the race for the leadership of National Assembly hots up, a group under the aegis of Ethics and Compliance Officers Association (ECOA) has called on the President-Elect, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu to allow federal lawmakers pick those they considered most competent.
In a statement issued and signed by its Executive Secretary, Kinu Kabirwa, the group insisted “the Parliament is controlled and managed by lawmakers by picking those they considered as first among equals.
“In this clime there should be no exceptions as the parliament is expected to work independently churning out legislations to benefit all Nigerians.
“Zoning out the various positions will go a long way in catapulting this arm of government into an abyss of confusion that will do no one no good.
“To this end, we are appealing to both APC and the President-Elect to put this on the front burner and Tinubu as a former lawmaker who knows what is right.
“The lawmakers also have the right to decide who they believe can champion their cause towards achieving maximum results in legislative business.
“A good legislative product like Aliyu Betara present Chairman Reps Committee on Appropriation who had chaired sensitive positions in various assemblies stands out as one aspirant that cannot be sacrificed on the altar of zoning.
“He is one lawmaker that has performed so well in discharging his legislative duties to the envy of his colleagues and without baggage.
The group further explained that such a performing lawmaker should be given the opportunity to ventilate the experience he has acquired over the years.
“He also enjoys a wide acceptance from his colleagues who are clamouring for him to occupy the office.
