Founder of Citadel Global Community Church (formerly known as Latter Rain Assembly), Pastor Tunde Bakare, has explained how a call from Mrs Foluke Adeboye, wife of the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, almost made him collapse.
Bakare pointed out that he was in London when he had the call with Mrs Adeboye who wanted to inquire about his health after watching a sermon of his on television.
He shared the story while addressing his followers at a Gathering of Sons and Daughters in Atlanta, Georgia, USA, on Sunday.
The three-day event, organised by the CGCC Diaspora Family Fellowship, was themed, ‘Global Mission and Globalisation: Avenues for expressing the dominion mandate.’
“I remember that I was on a London highway one day when Mrs Adeboye called. She had sent a text and I think she also made phone calls but I didn’t know who (it was),” he said.
The clergyman said the message was signed with the initials, ‘MGO,’ a short form for Mummy GO as she is fondly called by the RCCG congregation.
On Adeboye wife’s call, Bakare asserted that he placed a phone call and said “good afternoon, I got a text from this number”.
She said, “Haa, don’t you know me again?”
I said, “Who is speaking?” and she mentioned her name. My mouth is too small to call her by name.
“I almost collapsed. I said, ‘ma, I didn’t know it was you.’ She said, ‘Well, we were watching television and I saw you using a walking stick; I want to know that you are well.’ I said it was illustrated sermon.
“So, you can see that they care about me and I do care about them.”
TheNewsGuru.com recalls that Bakare had intended to be Nigeria’s 16th President.
He declared interest in the 2023 presidential race and contested under the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). He failed to secure a single vote at the primaries of the party.
Bakare declared his interest at the ‘Unveiling Project 16 to Nigerians in diaspora’ event tagged “The portrait is a new Nigeria” held virtually.
The clergy described the past administrations as “cake eaters” adding that it was time to have the 16th administration of “cake bakers.”
The Ogun State indigene was President Muhammadu Buhari’s running mate in 2011 when the latter ran unsuccessfully in that year’s presidential poll.
He warned that ahead of the 2023 general elections, “the Christians [are] against Muslims, the north against the south, the south-west against the south-east and the southeast against the north.”
“This situation calls for a certain kind of leader,” he said.
