Coach Abdullahi Biffo of Abia Warriors FC said he was utterly disappointed with his team’s goalless draw against visiting Ifeanyi Ubah FC of Nnewi.
Biffo said this in an interview with the sports Journalist at the end of the Week 32 NPFL match at the Umuahia Township Stadium on Sunday.
The coach, who looked downcast at the end of the encounter, said: “This is another black day for us.”
He expressed disbelief with the outcome of the game, saying, “we did not plan for this”.
He, however, said that the team would put the result behind them and look forward to a better outing in subsequent matches.
“I will not blame anybody for the result rather I want to put the game behind me so that we can concentrate on how to improve on our performance in future.”
The coach expressed concern that his strikers did not live upto expectation.
“The strikers failed to convert our chances in front of the goal.”
The Chief Coach of FC Ubah, Yaw Preko, saluted the gallantry of his team for picking an away point.
Preko said that the result would restore the confidence of the team, having lost vital two points in their last game at home.
“Getting a point here will bring back our confidence and we are going to build on it.
“We came here to start with a draw in the first half and possibly pick the three points at the end but the poor pitch did not help our game,” the coach said.
Some players and officials of Abia Warriors also said, on condition of anonymity, that the state of the pitch affected free flow game.
Meanwhile, soccer fans at the stadium hailed the superlative performance of FC Ubah’s goalkeeper, Bamba Drissa, whose brave and spectacular saves denied hard-fighting Abia Warriors home victory.
TheNewsguru Sports reports that Drissa kept the stadium alive throughout the match with loud ovations from the crowd.
He was constantly cheered for his heroic and indefatigable reflexes at goal, in spite of the sustained pressure from Abia Warriors, especially in the second half.
To further demonstrate their appreciation, the Ivorian-born goal-tender was literally mobbed by a crowd of ecstatic fans, who struggled to either shake hands or take photographs with him at the end of the match
