Rivers United will know its Confederations Cup quarter-final opponent today as the Confederation of African Football holds the draw in Cairo.
The Rivers-based clubside finished second behind Asec Mimosa of Cote d Ivoire in the group B of the CAF confederations cup.
As a result, the reigning champions of the Nigeria Professional Football League will be drawn against one of the teams that finished top of the other groups. These clubs are AS FAR of Morocco, Marumo Gallants FC of South Africa and Young Africans of Tanzania.
Ahead of today’s draw, head coach of the team, Stanley Eguma, is optimistic about the chances of his team, who are advanced beyond the group stages of continental football for the first time in their history.
“Our last game was like a test run of the quarter-final, although we didn’t quite live up to the expectations,” Eduma said.
“We have equal chances like any other team. Yes, we are new but we cannot be underrated. We will go back and work on our team and we will put in our best to come back stronger in the next round.
