Chapecoense Survivor Had No Recollection of Plane Crash & Even Asked for the Score of Their Game.
Chapecoense defender Neto, one of only six survivors from the Brazilian plane crash, which occurred in Colombia in early December, was entirely unaware of the incident upon regaining his faculties, and even asked the doctors present what was the result of their then-impending match against Atletico Nacional in the South American Cup final.
According to TV Globo, as quoted by Esporte the player asked several times on Saturday to doctors who treated him the result of their game, which never took place, owing to the tragedy.
Doctors, however, as reported, avoided delving into the subject of the plane crash, on the recommendation of the psychologist who is tracking the player’s recovery.
“There is a recommendation from the psychologist not to say and thus avoid an emotional shock that would be detrimental to the clinical recovery at this time. We are waiting for a more endorsed opinion,” said Carlos Mendonca, a Chapecoense physician.
Neto returned to breathing without the aid of devices on Saturday after being dependent on ventilation for nine days.
“We managed to get him out of mechanical ventilation, he’s still the ICU patient, who needs hourly follow-up.” The next 48 hours will be important for Neto. “Dr. Edson Stakonski told a news conference.
Wishing him a speedy recovery.
