Tottenham Hotspurs today moved into top four of the English Premier League after beating Everton 2-1 on Saturday afternoon at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Brennan Johnson and then Heung-min Son scored to put scores at 2-0 inside 20 minute of the encounter.
Tottenham needed a win as they looked to leapfrog Manchester City, away after their World Cup club duties, and move into fourth spot.
Everton trailed for 82nd minute in the thrilling encounter but got one back in the encounter.
In the second half, Dominic Calvert-Lewin had an early goal chalked off for a foul in the build-up from Andre Gomes, only for the former Barcelona man to score in the 82nd minute from a corner.
Ange Postecoglou’s team then invited pressure but were able to hold on for three points.
Elsewhere, Luton defeated Newcastle United 1-0 at Kenilworth road
The hosts were the better side in the opening 10 minutes and got the first chance of the match through Townsend, but his shot sailed over the crossbar.
However, while Newcastle looked the more likely to open the scoring it was Luton who got their noses in front first against the run of play when Townsend nodded home at the back post from a well-worked corner routine.
All effort by Newcastle to level things up proved abortive as Luton ran away with a goal lead and three points.
