Bayelsa Queens football club are the 2023 women’s Tingo Federation Cup champions.
The Bayelsa ladies defeated arch-rivals Rivers United 4-2 on penalties after ending the crunchy encounter 0-0 at the finals played at the main bowl of Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba, Delta State on Wednesday.
Bayelsa Queens converted four of their spot kicks while Rivers Angels converted two out of their possible five.
Chiamaka Okuchukwu ballooned her effort for the Angels, whilst her teammate, Agyaakwa Sofia had her spot kick saved by the goalkeeper, Onyinyechukwu Okeke.
Although, Edet Glory of Bayelsa Queens hit her spot kick against the cross bar, her teammates, Olapade Zainab converted the fifth kick to win the game for the Bayelsa ladies.
Commissioner of Sports in Bayelsa, Daniel Igali dedicated the victory to the members of the supporters club who died in auto crash in Kwale while coming to Asaba for the finals of the Nigerian Women Football League (NWFL) Super Six about two weeks ago.
Igali urged the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to go beyond the finals of the FA cup by making sure that the winners book a ticket for continental competition.
The victory meant Bayelsa Queens have defeated their neighbour four times in their meetings in the season.
