Chelsea left-back, Marcos Alonso has revealed what happened between him and former manager Frank Lampard when both men clashed in 2020.
It all started when Alonso was substituted at half time during Chelsea’s 3-3 draw with West Brom in September 2020.
And instead of sitting with the other players in the dugout, the Spaniard opted to go back to Chelsea’s changing room.
Lampard was furious with the left-back for refusing to wait in the dugout and gave him a dressing down in front of his teammates.
“The manager didn’t take it well but I explained everything that happened. He thought I left before the end of the game but I told him no,” Alonso told The Athletic.
Alonso said he was watching the game upstairs and with five minutes remaining until the final whistle, West Brom security asked him to leave the place and straight away he went to the changing room.
“Then when the referee blew the whistle, I went to the team bus before the team got back.
“It was not with any bad intention that I wanted to leave… I was not happy, of course, with how the game went and everything, but it was not my intention to do that,” he said.
