The Pan African Scrabble Association (PANASA), has named the Main Organizing Committee (MOC), for the two-in-one event, the PANASA President’s Cup and the African Youth Scrabble Championship holding in Lagos, Nigeria in August.
The President of the continental body governing the game of words, Nigeria’s Adekoyejo Adegbesan, disclosed this over the weekend in a chat with your authoritative news channel FIRST ZEALMEDIACAST BLOG .
Kenya’s Crispine Okeyo who is PANASA’s Technical Director is to serve as the Tournament Director of both the President’s Cup (PPC), as well as the African Youth Scrabble Championship (AYSC).
Nigeria’s Khaleel Adedeji, PANASA’s Ratings Officer and Farouq Babaina will assist the tournament director to oversee both Championships. Adedeji is assisting Okeyo in the President’s Cup while Babaina is supporting Okeyo with the African Youth Scrabble Championship.
Hakeem Olaribigbe and Olumide Oyejide are also part of the Main Organizing Committee (MOC) for the PANASA President’s Cup who will all work under the supervision of the President, Adekoyejo Adegbesan.
A hundred and fifty players from about twenty five countries are expected to congregate in Lagos, come August the 24th to 28th, 2023 for the first edition of the PANASA President’s Cup.
So far over seventy players from Botswana, Cameroon, Ghana, Kenya, Zambia, Uganda, South Africa, Liberia, The Gambia, Sierra Leone and host Nigeria have already registered for the Championship that has over 31,000 dollars as prize money.
Registration for the President’s Cup opened on the 1st of March and closes on the 31st of July and any player who wants to hit the board come August will pay $50 as registration fee. PANASA will not accept late entries.
In order to add some spice and colour to The President’s Cup, PANASA, will be staging a 1-day final fling event being planned for Sunday 27th August 2023.
The second event, the PANASA African Youth Scrabble Championship that holds simultaneously with the President’s Cup will be having 300 young talented scrabble players under 18 years from about 12 African countries in attendance.

Elisabeth Nagasha of Uganda, Patrick Hamilton Drake from Sierra Leone, Liberia’s Joseph Avery, Joseph Loiti of Botswana and Nigeria’s duo of Samuel Eromosele and Adewunmi Adepoju are all members of the Local Organizing Committee (LOC), of the African Youth Scrabble Championship.
The African Youth Scrabble Championship will be taking place at the Chrisland School Idimu and it has the financial support of Winifred Awosika Foundation.
Kayode Fashola the consultant between PANASA and Winifred Awosika Foundation says, the plans and all the needed logistics for a hitch free Championship will be put in place before the end of July.
It will interest you to know that PANASA has signed a deal with Kenyan Airways. Players coming to Nigeria for the two-in-one event will get discount. The discount code will be issued for flights to Lagos, Nigeria during the period of the Championship. Voucher will only be valid for use from Kenya, Uganda, Zambia, Botswana, South Africa and Tanzania.
Tayo Ogunseye is heading the media team of both events and will be supported by Paul Gbadegeshin, who will be incharge of the Third Media that is the Social Media.
