The hope of admitting at least 500 fans to Cologne’s crucial Bundesliga finale on Monday seems over after the city reported a seven-day coronavirus infection ratio of 105.3.
Cologne had hoped to welcome a few fans back for Saturday’s likely must-win clash with Schalke but this requires a ratio of under 100 for five consecutive working days.
Chief executive Alexander Wehrle had told the Bild paper on Sunday when the ratio was 89.8 that the club was `permanently in talks with authorities and had already applied to have fans in the stadium.
Second-last Cologne must realistically win against already relegated Schalke and hope results
elsewhere go their way to avoid dropping out of the top-flight.
Dortmund and Bochum, other cities in the North Rhine-Westphalia region, also have incident rates above 100 which would seem to end the chance of fans attending Bundesliga and second division matches there at the weekend.
