“In Andoni Local Government Area, INEC staff were held hostage and elections could not hold. Consequently, the Security agencies reinforced with a view to rescuing them and completing the elections today.
“Though the National and State Assembly elections conducted in Rivers state yesterday were relatively peaceful and the turn-out of voters was impressive, with Polling Units opening on time, there were reported cases of violence.
“Using the template deployed in the Edo and Ondo governorship elections, INEC staff were embedded at the Registration Area Centres ( RACs) across Rivers state on Friday and deployed to the Polling Units across Rivers state at first light on Saturday, 10th December 2016.
“In some areas such as Akuku Toru, Eleme, Etche, Gokana, Khana, and Andoni, violence or the threat of it, made it impossible for the polling officials to deploy as scheduled.
