Gabon residents took to the streets in jubilation after a group of military officers disclosed they had taken over power in the country with sounds of gunfire heard in the capital, Libreville.
TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports the Gabon residents expressed joy while long convoys of the military were seen in the streets of the country trying to ensure law and order and confidence building.
The military officers canceled elections results and dissolved state institutions, claiming they have taken power, local media reported on Wednesday.
The officers said that the general election was not credible and the results are annulled.
Prior to the incident, Gabon’s national electoral body said that President Ali Bongo Ondimba from the ruling Gabonese Democratic Party was re-elected for a third term in Saturday’s election.
