Cracked iPhone screens are so common they’ve even been called a status symbol but as customers fight for their right to repair, Apple is set to make it easier to get your cracked iPhone screen fixed.
According to media reports, by the end of 2017, Apple will put its proprietary machines for mending cracked iPhone glass in about 400 authorized third-party repair centres in 25 countries, company executives told Reuters.
The move is a major shift for Apple which has traditionally kept a vice-like grip on official repair services for its products.
The company had previously restricted use of its so-called Horizon Machine to its nearly 500 retail stores and mail-in repair centres; and it has guarded its design closely. But now it is ready to deploy them to non-Apple repair shops around the world.

The change comes as eight US states have launched “right to repair” bills aimed at prying open the tightly controlled repair networks of Apple and other high-tech manufacturers.
But Apple has said legislative pressure was not a factor in its decision to begin sharing its repair technology.
