Four persons were reportedly killed on Friday evening when two communities in the Khana Local Government Area of Rivers State clashed.
The two communities; Gwara and Gwure, were said to have fought over the alleged abduction and rape of a girl from Gwara by youths from Gwure community.
An indigene of one of the warring communities told newsmen that houses were razed in Gwure by the Gwara youth in a reprisal.
He said, “We have called in security agents to stop further attacks in Gwure. This fight is unnecessary. Some youths attacked one another and I cannot say the exact reason for the clash, though someone said it has a link with the kidnapping of a girl.”
The Gwure youth leader, Famous Kpakue, called on the local government council to call on more security operatives to quell the crisis.
Reacting to the incident, the Chairman, Caretaker Committee of Khana LGA, Gbene Zini, said the communal clash led to the killing of four persons.
Zini, who spoke shortly after meeting with leaders of the warring communities, said security had been beefed up in both communities.
