Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State on Thursday assented to the 2017 Budget of N217.9 billion.
Speaking after signing the budget, Ganduje said it was increased by the state assembly by N8 billion.
He, however, said the assembly had followed due process before taking the action by consulting all the relevant authorities and stakeholders.
“The budget was increased by N8 billion after consultation with the appropriate authorities” he said.
He expressed optimism that the law, christened “budget of self-reliance for sustenable development”, would improve the socio-economic status of the citizenry.
He said following the dwindling oil revenue due to the fall in oil price, the state government had resolved to be self-reliant by improving its internally generated revenue.
Ganduje commended the assembly for the prompt passage of the budget, adding that it was an inevitable task for the state to move forward.
NAN recalled that Ganduje had, on Nov. 23, 2016, presented a budget proposal of N209.8 billion to the state assembly for its consideration.
