Respite came the way of some accident victims on Saturday (today) as the early response of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) saved their almost lost lives.
TheNewsGuru.com reports that the Agency received a distress call at about 6.43am regarding a road accident at Itamaga junction at Ikorodu.
This prompted the immediate activation of the Agency’s ERT to the scene of the incident.
According to the General Manager of the Agency, Mr. Adesina Tiamiyu, two commercial buses driving recklessly collided with each other therefore causing a serious accident. However, there was no life lost in the incident.
In his words: “Investigation carried out by the Emergency Response Team, ERT at the scene of the incident revealed that a yellow commercial bus(SMK-633XM) collided with an oncoming white commercial bus(LSD-763XF). The collision was as a result of reckless driving”.
“Fortunately there was no loss of life involved in the incident as the swift intervention of the Agency’s ERT culminated to the salvage of 5 victims(4 adult female and an adult male),” the GM explained.
The GM further noted that the Agency’s ERT with Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC attached alongside Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, Nigeria Police Force, Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC and Lagos State Ambulance Service, LASAMBUS were early responders to the distress call.
TheNewsGuru.com reports that the five severely injured victims were taken to the trauma centre for further treatments, while officials of LASEMA recovered the two accidented vehicles off the road nearby ensuring free vehicular movements on the busy road.
Tiamiyu, however, advised drivers to drive within approved speed limit and also ensure a frequent check on their vehicles before embarking on journeys especially as the Eid-El-Fitr celebration sets in.
