Chancellor Angela Merkel has faith that Germany can reach its self-imposed 2020 climate goals as she admitted at a press conference on Tuesday that they are ambitious.
The climate protection plan lays out goals for reducing carbon dioxide emissions in the transport and energy industries, for example with the business sector and the unions.
The government is aiming that by 2020, to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 40 per cent in comparison with 1990 levels.
However, at the moment, emission levels have not been sinking at a quick-enough pace.
Merkel added that she would like to take a fresh crack at tax incentives for modernising buildings, since the sector was one where changes could easily have a large effect on reaching the target.
The coalition government at federal level failed in this legislative period to reach an agreement with the German states on a tax bonus for energy-saving renovations.
