U.S. President-elect Joe Biden has officially started his transition into the office of the President of the United States (POTUS).
TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports Biden introduced his nominations for high-profile national security and foreign policy roles on Tuesday.
At an event in Wilmington, Del., Biden introduced six of the top officials he has selected to serve as part of his national security team.
“America is back,” Biden, who was surrounded by the team on a socially distanced stage at The Queen theater in Wilmington, said.
He said the officials were “ready to lead the world, not retreat from it.”
Biden announced Avril Haines, a former deputy director of the C.I.A, who would be the first woman to serve as director of national intelligence if she is confirmed, and Alejandro Mayorkas, who would be the first Latino and first immigrant to lead the Department of Homeland Security.
Mr. Biden noted that Jake Sullivan, his choice to serve as National Security Adviser, would be the youngest person to coordinate the national security team in decades.
And he chose former Secretary of State John Kerry as his climate envoy, a role that does not require Senate confirmation, ensuring that for the first time, a principal on the National Security Council would have a full-time job fighting climate change.
Mr. Biden said the selection of Mr. Kerry would signal to world leaders that the issue was a priority. “He will have a seat at every table around the world,” Mr. Biden said.
Mr. Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris took no questions from the press. But in their remarks, they and the officials they had selected drew a stark contrast with President Trump.
Mr. Biden said his team would “tell me what I need to know, not what I want to know.” He said they would “make us proud to be Americans.”
