As students seek the best higher education institutions in Nigeria, the latest Times Higher Education World University Rankings for 2024 have been released, offering insights into the most esteemed universities.
The rankings are determined based on universities’ performance in five key areas: teaching, research environment, research quality, industry, and international outlook.
A total of 18 performance indicators are considered, each assigned a specific weight contributing to the overall score of each university.
Nigeria has 39 universities in the overall University Rankings for 2024 and below are the best federal, state and private universities based on the latest assessment:

- University of Ibadan (Rank: 801–1000): This prestigious federal university holds a solid position in the global rankings. It has a balanced student-to-faculty ratio of 50:50, indicating a conducive learning environment.

- University of Lagos (Rank: 1001–1200): UNILAG maintains a respectable global ranking with a diverse student body (51% male, 49% female).
