Popular singer and guitarist, Olugbemiro Tokunbo aka GT Da Guitarman has lamented over the state of insecurity in the country. The ‘Dreamer’ crooner noted that the insecurity in Nigeria is a reflection of failed leadership.
Speaking in an interview with TheNewsGuru, GT said:” Over the course of two decades I have been writing and recording songs about the situation of things in my dear country.I have been talking about the issue the average Nigerian is faced with. Insecurity itself is a reflection of failed leadership and weak governance. The people are hungry, angry and frustrated. Unfortunately the only people they can prey on are their fellow frustrated citizens. Because the people that are meant to be accountable to them, they cannot reach. This people are in bullet proof cars to protect themselves from the very citizens that they are supposed to protect. So it’s really a crazy situation that we have found ourselves in this country.
“There are no jobs, there is no hope. People are losing their jobs everyday .Even if you have a job, it is not commensurate to what your abilities are. It is not even enough to feed you, talk less of raise a family. There is a steady increase of youths who should be settled, but unfortunately are still in their parents’ home. They do not even know which way to go”.
Baring his mind on the quality of music artistes of this generation create, he said there is a decline in the feature of their lyrics.
”I feel that music is music as long as it is enjoyable and has a message. Music is meant to be enjoyed. There is a little bit of decline but honestly speaking, I enjoy the kind of music they do now.I love people like Davido, Simi and Adekunle Gold. There are quite amazing guys who are churning out great music. Even though there is still weak lyrics from a few people, it’s all just fun.
It’s good to see people create something that would take away the worries of the people. In as much as we need songs that will make us think, I feel that we also need songs that will get our minds off the stress and the hustle, bustle of the day.I think a balance will come, since GT is here”.
