Habibat Jinad is one beautiful actress who has been able to rise rapidly in the Yoruba sector of Nollywood. Many people who know her would remember her for her refreshing show ‘Miliki Express’ TV Show and Olowosibi . The talented role interpreter has starred in movies like “Omo K’omo”, “Iku L’okunrin”, and “Irin Ajo Eda Laye,” to name a few. In this interview with TheNewsGuru, she talks about her foray into acting, combining marriage with acting ,Mercy Aigbe’s marital crisis and lot’s more.
Venturing into Nollywood
I started acting in 2007; later joined Afeez Abiodun (Owo) in the year 2008 and I graduated from his school in the year 2010. Immediately after my graduation in the year 2010, someone insulted me saying, I’m not useful in the movie industry. I cried profusely, even my boss Afeez Abiodun , had to beg me. I had to pray to God for him to do wonders in my career.God answered my prayers. When I wanted to shoot my movie, the person who criticized me was part of my crew members.
The craziest thing a fan has ever done
The craziest thing a fan did to me was to give me a large sum of money. I went to Shoprite Ikeja and the guy was just staring at me. I greeted him and he immediately told me that he actually thought I wasn’t going to greet him.He walked up to me and asked for my account details. He transferred 250,000 in my account immediately. I was speechless .The funniest part of it was that he didn’t ask for my phone number. He simply said he loves the way I act and encouraged me.
Changes you will love to see in Nollywood
From my own perspective, we need more money in the industry, without money I’m sorry to say this we can’t go far. We also need to focus on producing movies people can learn from. Even If its once in a year a filmmaker makes a movie, the impact is what is important.
Hasty fame
Those looking for quick fame, will not last in Nollywood. Your talent, humility and perseverance will make you go far in Nollywood.
Using what you have to get what you want
I don’t believe in that philosophy. Watch out for people who have that mindset. Its either they don’t believe in themselves or they cannot act.
Actors becoming filmmakers
It is not necessary for actors to be filmmakers, but playing the lead role In your own movie gives you an edge and makes you get noticed by other filmmakers
Lucrativeness of acting
To be candid some Yoruba producers don’t really pay good money, so it is good to have something doing aside acting in order to have something to fall back on.
Lesson learnt from Mercy Aigbe’s marital crisis
I have always been learning from other people’s experiences. Marriage is another school entirely. If you want to keep your marriage, you have to quit acting before you can enjoy it. That’s just the truth. If I love my husband, I should be able to quit acting If he wants me to.
Definition of a sexy woman
A sexy woman has to be intelligent and humble. It is not about showing off your boobs or bum. A man knows a beautiful lady whenever he sees one. Showing off your boobs will not guarantee you a man.
Complexion getting her roles
I don’t think my complexion gets me roles but my talent does.
Mercy Aigbe’s marriage crisis
When I heard about Mercy Aigbe’s marriage crisis, I actually felt so bad. I felt bad because people will start saying negative things about actresses. They will start labeling us, saying that actresses cannot stay in their marriages. Coming into the movie industry was not easy for me. I didn’t have the intention of separating from my husband. I had to because he beats me and even packs my suitcases out whenever we disagree. When I couldn’t take it anymore, I had to leave the marriage. I know he is now regretting at the moment. Mercy Aigbe did the right thing by leaving. We won’t wait till when we lose her to celebrate her courage.
Coping as a single parent
That’s a tough question; it’s not been easy at all. I just have to thank God for the kind of people I have who have been supportive.
