Former Super Eagles player, Ifeanyi Udeze has said winger, Samuel Chukwueze was yet to impress at the ongoing 2021 African Cup of Nations (AFCON).
TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports Udeze made this known even after Chukwueze netted the first goal in the second Group D fixture the Super Eagles played against Sudan.
The Villareal skipper netted the goal against Sudan in the 3rd minute of the game, with the Super Eagles going on to win the game 3:1.
Although Chukwueze’s goal against Sudan is the fastest goal of the tournament so far, Udeze believes that the winger was yet to hit his best form.
Recall that Chukwueze suffered a serious injury in last season’s Europa League semi-final second leg against Arsenal.
However, he recovered in time to be named in the Super Eagles’ 28-man squad for the AFCON being held in Cameroon.
In the first game against Egypt Chukwueze did not impress and had to be replaced in the second half.
In the game against Sudan, he was replaced by Alex Iwobi before the start of the second half.
Udeze explained why the Villarreal winger is yet to fully impress.
“Chukwueze is not yet in form, remember he was out with injury. But by the time he gets back to form we will see the best of him. I just pray he hits form in time,” Udeze said on Brila FM.
The Super Eagles will be back in action on Wednesday against Guinea-Bissau, who need a win to stand a chance to qualify for the round of 16.
