Marking the National Cyber Security Awareness Month (NCSAM) in October 2017, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) over the course of the month presented simple tips everyone can follow to keep themselves safe online.
The Internet touches almost all aspects of everyone’s daily life, whether we realize it or not, and according to the Department of Homeland Security, sponsors of NCSAM, the awareness month is designed to engage and educate public and private sector partners through events and initiatives to raise awareness about the importance of cybersecurity.
The NCC proudly participated in the NCSAM publishing on its website, as well as its social media platforms: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, and LinkedIn, simple tips everyone can follow to keep themselves, their identities, and their information safe online.
“Major Cybersecurity incidents have shown that cyber criminals depend on human error to gain access to systems and information. Errors such as failure to install software patches, clicking on malicious links, and creating easy-to-guess passwords,” NCC stated in one of its publications.
“In organizations, Cybersecurity isn’t limited to the department of IT alone. Any department with access to the Internet and network is vulnerable to cyber-attack,” the Nigerian telecom regulators further stated.
