A 5.0-magnitude earthquake hit Zhongba county in Southwest China’s Tibet autonomous region Wednesday at 6:07 pm (Beijing Time), according to the China Earthquake Networks Center (CENC).
The epicentre was monitored at 30.67 degrees north latitude and 83.34 degrees east longitude. The quake struck at a depth of 8 km, the centre said in a statement.
Also, a strong 5.1-magnitude earthquake has struck near Kaikoura, New Zealand and been felt by thousands of people.
The New Zealand quake, which hit at 11.24pm (local time), was centred 10km north-east of Kaikoura at a depth of 16km.
The quake was felt in the South Island, and as far north as Auckland, according to felt reports on GeoNet. More than 2000 people reported feeling the quake which was rated as “strong” by GeoNet.
