Steve Cole, the Chairman of relegated Warri Wolves FC of Delta, says the club will bounce back stronger to the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) with its current programme.
Officials said that the club which finished the 2015/2016 NPFL being 17th on the log with 37 points, had at the beginning of last season lost 16 of its key players which affected its performance.
Cole, who spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos, said that the state planned to ensure a transition program was in place to promote quality players.
“Relegation is one of those things that happen in football, it can happen to any club, we will come back stronger, and we are currently looking inwards to address so many issues.
“Wolves is going through a phase, we are learning and making corrections, we will bounce back with a bang,’’ he said.
Cole said that the state had concluded plans to focus more on grassroots development to produce top class footballers.
“We are focusing on building our football from the grassroots, we have our U-16 team, other professional clubs buy players from it but in our own case it’s different.
“Buying players cost money in terms of transfer fees, what our commission has done is to go to the grassroots to see how we can look inwards to develop our own players.
“From the U-16 team, the player will graduate to state league and then to the amateur team and then to either of our professional clubs which is Warri Wolves or Delta Force,’’ he said
