Former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and presidential hopeful, Kingsley Moghalu has taken a swipe at President Muhammadu Buhari for describing Nigerian youths as lazy.
Moghalu who made the remarks while speaking at an event organised by The Covenant Christian Centre and aimed at facilitating National Development said those [Buhari] who percieved Nigerians as lazy spends more time in the hospital than in his duty post as President of Nigeria.
“Let us send the recycled politicians politely back to their villages. Are we not afraid of what we manage?
“Are we not afraid of the leaders that we have in this country? Are you billionaires not tired of the country that you have to explain and defend at the World Economic Forum?” he questioned.
Moghalu explained further that his decision to contest for the highest political office is passion driven. He said he is tired of the way things are run in the country.
While criticising some leaders considered to be selfish, he called on the masses to use the power of the ballot in the 2019 elections.
“I don’t want to be that big man who is in the four by four, drowning in the pot-holes and chatting on the cell phones to pretend not to be in the potholes.
“That is what we have in Nigeria. We grow rich and successful, forgetting the average person. In fact, our recycled political class whom we must overthrow in a democratic revolution at the ballot box come 2019, all they exist for is that our people remain poor,” Moghalu said.
Moghalu’s comments come 24 hours after President Donald Trump praised President Muhammadu Buhari’s efforts in the war against corruption.
“Nigeria has a reputation for very massive corruption. I also know that the President (Buhari) has been able to cut that down very substantially. We talked about that, he is working on it and they have made a lot of progress and I think they will continue to make a lot of progress,” Trump said.
Trump said this cut down on corruption in Nigeria will attract investors from the United States to Nigeria.
The event was well-attended by professionals, pastors, among others are currently discussing governance, politics and the importance of getting involved in Nigeria.
Pastor Poju Oyemade, who is the convener of the event, while giving opening address emphasised the importance of young Nigerians getting involved in governance.
He said the lowest form of power in a democratic setting is power for an electorate to cast his or her vote.
Speakers at the event include Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.
Others include presidential aspirants, Kingsley Moghalu and Fela Dorotoye.
