Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate in the last election, remains resolute in contesting the outcome of the February 25th election at the Supreme Court.
Speaking during a World Press Briefing in Abuja, he stated, “I will only drop the fight when the court rules. At the moment, we’re at the Supreme Court, and there is no other court than the Supreme Court.”
Abubakar further reiterated his strong opposition to a Muslim-Muslim ticket, stressing the need for diversity in leadership that mirrors the multi-ethnic and multi-religious composition of Nigeria.
“I don’t believe it is right for this country. We are multi-ethnic and multi-religious, and our government should reflect our diversity and composition,” he said.
Abubakar is challenging the declaration of President Bola Tinubu as the winner of the Presidential election, as well as the affirmation of Tinubu’s victory by the election petition tribunal on September 6.
In support of his argument, Abubakar alleged discrepancies and forgeries in Tinubu’s academic records.
He secured a court order from the US court, compelling the release of Tinubu’s academic records by the Chicago State University (CSU).
The documents were released on Monday, revealing critical information:
1. Bola Ahmed Tinubu allegedly forged the certificate he presented to INEC.
2. The qualifying certificate from South West College to Chicago State University is marked female, indicating that it does not belong to Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
3. The Chicago State University admission application form suggests Tinubu attended Government College Lagos and graduated in 1970, whereas the school was established in 1974.
4. The document indicates that the owner of the certificate is a Black American, contradicting Tinubu’s denial of dual citizenship in the documents submitted to INEC.
5. The oral deposition States that the “A” in his name is Ahmed, while the NYSC certificate submitted to INEC has Adekunle.
Abubakar and his counterpart Peter Obi of the Labour Party, filed 86 grounds of appeal at the Supreme Court, urging the nullification of the judgment of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal.
Their petition cited non-compliance with the Electoral Act 2022 and questioned Tinubu’s qualification to contest the election, among other issues.
Sources at the Supreme Court anticipate the institution of a panel to entertain the suit in the coming week.
