Legendary Afrobeat singer, Bisade Ologunde, popularly known as Lagbaja, and other Nigerian musicians have brought the heat to Oko-Afo area of Lagos State on Sunday night as they performed at Turning Touch Hotel stage.
The CEO of conscious music Entartamant, Mansion Piller, was the first to take the stage. He thrilled fans with his “No be God” song and dropped something from his new project.
He was then joined by the Legend, Lagbaja, to give the audience a link-up that was never expected.
Reggae artist, Faya, held spectators at the event spellbound as he took over the stage to chant some of his recent vibes and later did a freestyle for his long awaiting fans.
TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports that the event started at 7 pm till midnight, with exhilarating performances by various upcoming artists.
One of the best moments of the night was when the masked genius (Lagbaja) left the stage to meet his fans while performing his dance hit “Konko Below- Pade mi ni sale” from the album “Me”.
It was gathered that Ologunde adopted the name Lágbájá (meaning “Jane Doe” or “John Doe”- A person whose name, and identity is intentionally concealed in Yoruba) as he embarked on his career in the early 90s.
His name was reflected in his choice of stage attire- a slitted textile and rubber mask adopted so that the artist represented the ‘common man’ in keeping with the carnival tradition of his Yoruba tribe.
Lagbaja formed his first small band in 1991 in Lagos after he had taught himself to play the saxophone. With a high quotient of percussion instruments including congas and talking drums.
His album “We Before Me”, which was released in 2000, demanded honesty from politicians and urged brotherhood and unity.
Speaking on the event, the CEO of Turning Touch Hotel, Collins Ubamachukwu Emeka, pointed out that music, just like football, brings Nigerians together and makes people happy.
Collins noted that since Nigeria could not qualify for the ongoing World Cup in Qatar, he decided to use music to put smiles on the faces of the Nigerian youths.
The owner of the top-notch hotel at Oko-Afo asserted that only if those scouting for players for the national team can pick players across the federation, based on merit, Nigeria would provide the best team in the world.
