A tricycle operator, Tosin Bolaji, 23, on Tuesday appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, over alleged theft of a tricycle valued N750,000.
The defendant, who resides at No.59, Ewe Obala St., County, Ogba in Lagos, was arraigned on a one-count charge of stealing, which offence, he denied committing.
The Prosecutor, Sgt. Adetutu Sanusi, said that the defendant committed the offence on Feb. 8 at Ogba area of Lagos State.
She alleged that the defendant stole a tricycle with registration No. FKJ 878 QF valued at N750,000, belonging to the complainant, Mrs Kanyinsola Ambali.
Sanusi told the court that the defendant had allegedly collected the tricycle on hire purchase from the complainant.
“After the defendant collected the tricycle, he called the complainant later, saying that the tricycle had been stolen by thieves,’’ the prosecutor said.
According to the prosecutor, the offence contravenes Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 287 prescribes three years imprisonment for stealing.
The Magistrate, Mrs E. O. Okpara, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case until Oct. 22, for mention.
