Nasarawa State House of Assembly has appealed to the State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (NAPHCDA), to prioritise the health needs of people of the state.
Mr Larry Ven-Bawa, the Chairman of the State Assembly Committee on Health, made the appeal when the Agency appeared before the committee on its 2023 budget performance on Wednesday in Lafia.
Ven-Bawa also commended Gov. Abdullahi Sule, for prioritising the health sector, which he said had improved the health status of the people of the state.
He said that the exercise was to assess the agency’s 2023 budget performance and to correct any anomaly that may be discovered.
Ven-Bawa urged the agency to always adhere strictly to its budgetary provisions by avoiding extra budgetary spending.
According to him, any amount expended without the House approval is illegal.
“All we are doing is to ensure that we correct the wrongs and make sure that the right things are done for improved health status of our people,” he said.
Ven-Bawa urged the agency to ensure that health facilities in the state provide quality healthcare services to the people across the state.
He added that a healthy nation is a wealthy nation.
The committee chairman further appreciated the state governor for providing an enabling environment for the agency to succeed on its mandate to the people.
Ven-Bawa assured the agency that the assembly would continue to support them to succeed in their quest to provide quality healthcare service to the people of the state.
He said that the committee would embark on oversight visit to all health facilities across the state to ascertain the infrastructure and the quality of service delivery
Earlier, Dr Madawa Absalom, Director Community and Family Health Services of the agency, appreciated the committee for the support.
The director assured of the agency’s commitment to continue to prioritise the health of the people.
In another development, the committee also hosted the management of Nasarawa State Infectious Disease and Research Centre
(NASIDRC) where the chairman of the committee, commended the state governor for his passion in developing the centre.
He said the committee would collaborate with the state government to ensure development of the centre for effective healthcare service delivery.
The chairman disclosed that the committee would visit the centre to see things for themselves.
” We are coming to inspect facilities at the centre in order to see things for ourselves,” he said.
Dr Dangana Usman, Director -General of the Centre, appreciated the House and the governor for giving adequate attention to the centre and called for its sustenance.
He assured of centre’s commitment to provide quality healthcare service to the people of the state.
