…as Obaseki floors Obaseki a second time
…godfatherism finally buried in Edo
By Emman Ovuakporie
At last, the results of the fever pitch Edo guber polls have been announced as for the second time, Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, floors Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu of the All Progressives Congress, APC.
TheNewsGuru.com, TNG, in this short analysis x-rays the journey so far as former All Progressives Congress, APC Chairman Adams Oshiomhole and his political mentor, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu were demystified by the Edo electorates.
Tinubu in his wildest imagination had thought the strings he pulled in Lagos last year after he had tactically removed a sitting governor could be replicated in the heartbeat of the nation.
Edolites with this singular action have buried the godfatherism syndrome that has plagued for over 20years.
Oshiomhole and his political mentor can now wave goodbye to Edo State for good.
The fears and mayhem perpetuated by the political gladiators in the State was not enough to deter the Edolites by using their PVCs to send a strong message to all godfathers across Nigeria.
The message was loud and clear, ‘Edo nobi Lagos’ and the echo of four plus four reigned mainly in Edo Central.
Obaseki after proper consultation with all stakeholders had to exit the APC on June 16 after the then APC chairman had insisted that his days were numbered as number one citizen of Edo State.
Without wasting precious time Obaseki migrated to the PDP and eventually became its flag bearer.
It was glaring that it was not going to be an easy task for Oshiomhole under the new circumstances to produce the next governor of the heartbeat of the nation.
With this development, the days of godfatherism in the state is over as Oshiomhole and his political mentor search for fresh political vista in the south south geo-political zone.
The South South governors led by Governor Nyesom Wike and Dr Ifeanyi Okowa really gave a good account of themselves, despite subtle threats from Abuja they held sway.
