Over 15 armed robbers on Thursday night raided houses in Madalla town in Niger state announcing to victims that they were operating to survive lockdown and Covid-19.
The robbers raided houses behind the Agwa Seriki palace where they carted away provisions and food items.
According to an account of one of the neighbors of a victim, name withheld, the robbers apologised to the victims that they needed food to survive the pandemic.
She said”we heard all the noise and they were quick to announce that they are strictly here to collect food items to survive this period of lockdown.
“It was the cries of children and women that scared them away but we couldn’t come out because they were armed with guns, cutlasses and long sticks.
“We thank God nobody was harmed but neighbours selling provisions had their houses emptied.
