Nigerian Professional Football League, NPFL, side, Rivers United FC are expected to round off their pre-season training for the 2017 season in Madrid, Spain.
The team’s Media Officer, Sammy Wajinya, told DAILY POST that the plan is to enable the players, who will be representing Nigeria in the CAF Champions League next season, gain the needed exposure to face other teams in Africa.
Wajinya said that while in Spain, the team is expected to engage a La Liga side and notable clubs in various divisions in the country such as Second B sides, Levante, Union Deportivo II and Club Deportivo Alcoyano in tune up games.
He said the move is sponsored by the Rivers State government led by the Sports-loving governor, Nyesom Wike to equip the team enough for next season challenges.
Also the technical crew of Rivers United led by manager, Stanley Eguma are also expected to be huge beneficiaries of the programme as a crash course on coaching methodology has already been arranged with the La Liga club.
On Monday, December 13, the club’s contingent will attend a La Liga match from 20:45 and is due back in Nigeria on Thursday, December 22 ahead of the new NPFL season.
